Police report details circumstances surrounding reality star Darrell Sheets' suicide

Summary

Lake Havasu City police say Sheets' final texts and a handwritten note indicate he was dealing with personal stress before his self-inflicted gunshot death on April 22.

Lake Havasu City police disclosed details from Darrell Sheets' cell phone and home search that shed light on his death, which the medical examiner ruled a suicide. The investigation report noted that Sheets had been "struggling with numerous things" and that detectives found a handwritten note in a black bin inside a closet. The note, described as shaky, read, "I could not take anymore the Facebook bullying, f*** you [redacted]."

According to an unnamed girlfriend, Sheets experienced severe sleep deprivation and was unable to sleep the night before his death. She said he stood in his office doorway, told her to "go back to bed," and shortly thereafter a single gunshot was heard. The report also mentioned recent family tension, including a verbal argument with his son Brandon Sheets and a text from his daughter-in-law alleging the girlfriend was stealing money, which appeared to upset him.

Sheets, a cast member of A&E's "Storage Wars" since 2010, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on April 22 at age 67. The Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed the cause of death as suicide. A co-star, Rene Nezhoda, suggested on social media that online harassment might have played a role, and Sergeant Kyle Ridgway said the cyberbullying claim was part of an active investigation.
