Kentucky Governor Presses Senator McConnell for Health Update Amid Ongoing Hospitalization
Senator Mitch McConnell remains hospitalized and is reported to be improving, while Governor Andy Beshear urges the senator to provide more details about his condition.
Senator Mitch McConnell, 84, continues his recovery in a Kentucky hospital, according to a statement from his office on Saturday, July 11. The spokesperson said the senator appreciates the public’s support and is working with his staff on state and Senate matters while the Senate is not in session.
Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky used a social-media post on the same day to ask the senator to end speculation and disclose his health status. In a letter to McConnell’s office, the Democratic governor said Kentuckians are increasingly concerned and urged the senator to provide an update, likening the request to his earlier call for transparency about former President Joe Biden’s health.
McConnell was hospitalized on June 14 after emergency crews responded to a 911 call that indicated he was unconscious. A neighbor’s video showed an ambulance outside his home, and the dispatcher requested advanced life-support assistance. No further details have been released by the senator’s team.
The governor’s request has drawn bipartisan attention, but McConnell’s office has not responded to additional inquiries.
