Tristan Peters hits for cycle as White Sox rout Athletics 14-1
Tristan Peters recorded the seventh cycle in Chicago White Sox history in a 14-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics, while pitcher Sean Burke threw seven strong innings.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Tristan Peters completed a cycle in the eighth inning of a 14-1 win against the Oakland Athletics at Guaranteed Rate Field on Mexican Heritage Night. Peters, who became the seventh player in franchise history to hit for the cycle, contributed a two-run double, a double, and a ground-out that completed the feat, finishing the game with three hits and four RBIs.
The White Sox built a 13-run lead in the seventh inning, scoring eight runs on five extra-base hits. The offensive surge followed a three-game stretch in which Chicago managed only two runs and no extra-base hits against the Boston Red Sox.
Sean Burke delivered a dominant performance on the mound, retiring the first 13 batters he faced and allowing just three hits and one run over seven innings while striking out nine. He threw 70 strikes out of 98 pitches, mixing fastballs averaging 96 mph with a knuckle curve that generated several swings and misses.
Oakland’s Tyler Soderstrom hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh, narrowing the deficit to 4-1, but the White Sox responded with a flurry of doubles and singles that extended the lead to 11-1. The Athletics added a lone run in the eighth on a solo shot by Miguel Vargas.
White Sox manager Will Venable praised the team's effort, saying, "Really nice to bust out, really all over the place, there was a lot of good stuff." Peters reflected on his achievement, noting, "It’s really cool to be one of two guys from Canada to hit for the cycle. I’m honored."
The win marked Chicago’s first game after being swept by Boston and helped the team rebound offensively while maintaining solid defense, including three double plays.
