Red Sox arrive late in New York after Chicago flight delays, game start pushed back

摘要

Boston's flight from Chicago was delayed, causing the team to reach Citi Field later than planned and the opening of Friday's game against the Mets to be moved to 7:50 p.m. ET.

The Boston Red Sox departed Chicago around 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday and landed in New York just before 5:00 p.m., after a series of aircraft problems that kept the team grounded for several hours. The delay shifted the start of their series opener against the New York Mets from the scheduled 7:15 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. ET, giving the players roughly two and a half hours to deplane, travel to Citi Field and prepare for the game.

Boston entered the matchup on a six-game winning streak, having won 11 of its last 13 contests. The Mets opened the game with a defensive lapse when Juan Soto dropped a routine fly ball, allowing Anthony Seigler to reach first base. Masataka Yoshida then drove in two runs for Boston, giving the Red Sox a 2-0 lead.

The Red Sox have previously overcome travel disruptions earlier in the season, including an overnight flight that arrived at 5:00 a.m. ET on a game day, after which they defeated the New York Yankees and completed a sweep of that series. The Nationals were the only team to beat Boston in the past two weeks, taking two of three games in a recent series.
