Wreckage of missing K2 Airways Boeing 737 found in Arabian Sea, crew still unaccounted for

Resumen

Pakistani authorities recovered debris from a K2 Airways cargo Boeing 737 that vanished off the coast, while five crew members remain missing.

Pakistani officials announced Wednesday that debris from a K2 Airways Boeing 737-400 freighter was recovered about 53 miles south of Ormara in the Arabian Sea, after the aircraft disappeared on Tuesday evening while en route from Sharjah to Karachi. The search for the five crew members—captain Muhammad Rizwan Idris, first officer Faisal Jatoi, flight engineers Muhammad Hamid and Muhammad Arif Siddiqui, and loader Muhammad Taufiq Khan—continues.

The aircraft lost contact at approximately 9:21 p.m. local time, roughly 155 nautical miles west of Karachi, after the crew reported a navigation system problem. Radar tracks showed the plane descending rapidly before disappearing from coverage.

Military and civilian assets, including a navy frigate and air force aircraft, were deployed to locate the wreckage and continue the rescue effort. Pakistan's Airports Authority said various air and sea-borne resources were employed and that further details would be provided as the operation progresses.

Family members of the missing crew have been in regular contact with the airline. Ghulam Nabi Bahrani, the father-in-law of first officer Jatoi, told the Associated Press that the family is awaiting news and hopes for a positive outcome.

K2 Airways, which operates a single aircraft and was founded in 2018, issued a statement expressing its continued prayers for the safety of its personnel.
