Florida airport renamed for Donald J. Trump after state legislation
Palm Beach International Airport will operate under the name President Donald J. Trump International Airport, with new codes and signage phased in, following a state law and FAA approval.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced that the West Palm Beach airport will be renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, marking the first U.S. airport named after a sitting president. The change takes effect Thursday, with signage, branding and public-facing materials to be updated in stages. The airport’s FAA location identifier will shift from PBI to DJT, and the International Air Transport Association code is scheduled to change on Aug. 18. Major carriers such as United, Delta, American and Southwest have begun using the DJT code on booking platforms, though the former PBI code remains searchable.
The renaming follows a bill signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis earlier this year and subsequently approved by the FAA. The airport estimates the transition will cost $5.5 million, half of which is funded by a state appropriation, with the remainder covered by the local Department of Airports’ budget and capital improvement program.
"While we recognize that the required name change may be received in different ways by our passengers, we're grateful for your continued support through this transition period," the airport said in an FAQ.
The facility is located near the Mar-a-Lago club, a frequent destination for the president. Eric Trump noted that the private jet known as Trump Force One is expected to be the first aircraft to land under the new name, adding that he will see the DJT initials on his boarding pass.
