FAA updates Palm Beach airport code as Trump name change takes effect

Resumen

The FAA switched Palm Beach International Airport's identifier to DJT, beginning a phased transition that will see the commercial code change on Aug. 18 following a state-mandated renaming.

The Federal Aviation Administration changed the locational identifier for Palm Beach International Airport from PBI to DJT on Thursday, marking the start of a phased transition after the airport was renamed Donald J. Trump International Airport under a law signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The new FAA identifier and the ICAO code KDJT are now used for flight planning and air traffic control, while the IATA commercial code will be updated to DJT on Aug. 18, the date airlines and reservation systems are expected to adopt the change.

Airport officials said travelers should continue using the PBI code for searches, bookings and baggage tags until the IATA update, and that the rollout is intended to allow airlines, reservation platforms and airport partners to adjust their systems without disrupting operations. The renaming does not alter ownership; Palm Beach County will retain oversight of the airport’s finances and strategic decisions.

State and local signage has already been updated, and additional on-site branding will be replaced gradually. Funding for the change will come from airport revenues and possible state contributions, not from local property taxes.

"The phased rollout is designed to ensure a smooth transition as airlines, reservation systems and airport partners update their platforms," an airport spokesperson said.

"The renaming does not affect ownership or governance of the airport," the spokesperson added.

The first high-profile arrival after the identifier change was expected to be Eric Trump’s aircraft, which he announced on social media.

Airport officials will continue to provide updates through the airport’s website and social media channels as further signage and passenger-facing systems are revised.
