The Television Academy revealed the first Emmy nominations, naming winners in Variety Series and Reality Competition categories, with the full slate to be announced later today.
The Television Academy began its 78th Primetime Emmy Awards nomination rollout on Wednesday, unveiling the Outstanding Variety Series and Outstanding Reality Competition Program categories during a segment on NBC’s Today show. ABC’s Dancing with the Stars earned its first nomination in a decade for the reality competition slot. The ceremony to announce the remaining categories will start at 8:30 a.m. PT, co-hosted by past winners Liza Colón-Zayas of The Bear and Jeff Hiller of Somebody Somewhere.
The nominees for Outstanding Variety Series are The Daily Show (Comedy Central), Jimmy Kimmel Live! (ABC), Last Week Tonight With John Oliver (HBO Max), The Late Show With Stephen Colbert (CBS) and Saturday Night Live (NBC). The Outstanding Reality Competition Program field includes Dancing with the Stars (ABC), RuPaul’s Drag Race (MTV), Survivor (CBS), Top Chef (Bravo) and The Traitors (Peacock).
The Emmy winners will be crowned on Monday, September 14, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, a shift from the usual Sunday slot due to an NFL broadcast. Network veteran Mariska Hargitay, known for Law & Order: SVU, will host the ceremony.
