Lakers reportedly offer Jonathan Kuminga two-year, $20 million contract

Résumé

Los Angeles Lakers are said to have presented a two-year, $20 million offer to free-agent forward Jonathan Kuminga, who has yet to decide.

The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly extended a two-year contract worth $20 million to free-agent forward Jonathan Kuminga, according to sources cited by the Los Angeles Times. The offer represents a reduction from Kuminga's $23 million salary last season, reflecting the team's limited cap space. Kuminga, who averaged 12.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game last season and shot 33.3% from three-point range, remains unsigned and is evaluating his options.

"We are interested in adding a versatile wing like Kuminga and have increased our offer to reflect that interest," a Lakers spokesperson said.

Rob Pelinka, the Lakers' president of basketball operations, is reportedly working to create additional cap flexibility to make the deal more attractive. If Kuminga were to join the roster, the team expects he could see increased playing time and potentially improve on his career-high 16.1 points per game achieved during the 2023-24 season with Golden State.
