James Taylor cites long-standing Tanglewood gig for skipping Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce wedding

Résumé

Singer-songwriter James Taylor said he missed Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's ceremony because he was performing at his annual Tanglewood concert, a tradition he has kept for more than five decades.

James Taylor told an audience on Friday that he could not attend the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce because he was scheduled to perform at the Tanglewood Music Festival in Lenox, Massachusetts. The 78-year-old singer-songwriter, whose wife Kim was also invited, said he wishes the couple “happiness and smooth sailing.”

Taylor has played the Independence Day concert at Tanglewood’s Koussevitzky Music Shed every year since 1974, a commitment that conflicted with the Madison Square Garden ceremony. A spokesperson for Swift did not respond to a request for comment.

Other high-profile guests also missed the event. “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest said he had to cancel after Disney hired him for a Fourth of July television special. He explained that the wedding took place in the afternoon, making it impossible to fulfill both obligations. Musicians and athletes including Harry Styles, Serena Williams and actor Robert Pattinson were similarly unable to attend due to touring, a Wimbledon match and a film shoot, respectively.

The wedding, held on Friday at the New York arena, featured luxury items such as Cartier watches, a designer handbag and a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle that was reportedly raffled off, with security costs running into six figures.
