Nothing launches Phone (4b) as lower-priced budget model with modest specs

Summary

Nothing introduced the Phone (4b) at £299/€329, offering a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor, 6.77-inch 120 Hz display and three-camera system, but its price sits close to the higher-end Phone (4a), limiting its appeal in European markets.

Nothing announced the Phone (4b) as a new entry-level smartphone priced at £299 in the United Kingdom and €329 in the Eurozone. The device features a 6.77-inch 120 Hz AMOLED display with a 2344×1088 resolution, a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset, 8 GB of RAM, and either 128 GB or 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Battery capacity is 5,200 mAh globally, with a larger 6,000 mAh unit supplied in India. Camera hardware includes a 50 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide lens, and a 16 MP front-facing shooter. The phone ships with Android 16 and is covered by three years of operating-system updates and six years of security patches.

The Phone (4b) does not include the lock-screen advertisements that appeared on the earlier Phone (3a) Lite model, a change noted by reviewers. Compared with the Phone (4a), the new model has a lower-resolution display, lacks a telephoto camera, offers a slower processor and storage, and provides reduced water-resistance ratings. Pricing differences are narrow: the Phone (4b) costs about £50/€80 less than the Phone (4a) but £50/€80 more than the Phone (3a) Lite.

Nothing indicated that the Phone (4b) will not be sold in the United States, where the Phone (4a) Pro remains the most affordable option. Analysts suggest that promotional discounts or a future price increase for the Phone (4a) could improve the Phone (4b)’s market position, though its current pricing places it in a competitive challenge.

"Lock Glimpse" ads that redirected users to external sites were present on the Phone (3a) Lite, but the review unit of the Phone (4b) showed no such ads.

The launch follows a recent cancellation of a new CMF device, reflecting broader pricing pressures in the budget smartphone segment.
