Nothing denies market exit rumors amid restructuring and layoffs
Nothing said it will not withdraw from global markets but confirmed job cuts as part of a reorganization, while sales of its newest phones have lagged expectations.
Nothing Ltd. said it will not cease selling its smartphones in any international market, but it confirmed that a restructuring will result in significant staff reductions. The company did not comment on the specific markets mentioned in a report that claimed it was planning to leave more than a dozen regions, including Japan, parts of Europe and the Middle East.
According to the same report, the newly launched Nothing Phone (4b) has sold about 20,000 units since its release earlier this month, while the Phone (4a) series, launched in late March, has reached roughly 150,000 units worldwide. The figures suggest a slowdown compared with the brand’s performance last year, when it shipped around two million devices.
Nothing continues to see strong demand for its products in India, and its audio accessories remain steady in other markets. The company’s R&D teams in China and London are also slated for reductions as part of the reorganization.
"We are not exiting any markets," a Nothing spokesperson said, adding that the company is focusing on restructuring its operations.
Analysts note that the challenges faced by Nothing reflect broader pressures in the Android smartphone sector, including rising component costs and competitive pricing dynamics.
