Biohacker Bryan Johnson Diagnosed with Incurable Autoimmune Gastritis

Summary

Tech entrepreneur Bryan Johnson announced he has autoimmune gastritis, an irreversible condition he attributes to earlier dietary habits, and said he will continue experimental monitoring and treatment efforts.

Tech entrepreneur Bryan Johnson, known for publicly tracking his health metrics in an effort to slow aging, disclosed on June 30 that he has been diagnosed with autoimmune gastritis, an incurable autoimmune disease that attacks the stomach lining. Johnson wrote on X that his stomach is “eating itself” and described the condition as causing nutritional deficiency, anemia and a heightened long-term cancer risk.

He said the disease likely stemmed from a past diet high in sugary cereal, soda and fast food before he adopted a biohacking regimen that includes a low-calorie vegan diet, supplements and regular medical testing. Johnson added that standard medical care currently offers only symptom management, but he intends to monitor biomarkers such as ferritin and iron, conduct repeated biopsies and explore personalized therapies using AI, multi-omics and custom-built DNA, proteins and cells.

Johnson, who sold his fintech company Braintree Venmo to PayPal for $800 million in 2013, has spent roughly $2 million a year on anti-aging interventions, including extensive imaging and invasive procedures. He continues to publish his health data online as part of his broader effort to extend human lifespan.
