Apple adds Siri voice customization and other tweaks in iOS 27 beta 3
The third beta of iOS 27 introduces on-device Siri voice customization, new accessibility features, and several UI and functionality updates ahead of the September release.
Apple released the third beta of iOS 27, adding a range of new features as the company prepares for a September launch. The update activates Siri voice customization on compatible iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air models, allowing users to adjust the pace and expressivity of the assistant with two base voice options.
"Siri voice customization requires an iPhone 17 Pro or an iPhone Air because it uses on-device processing," the release notes state.
In Accessibility, a Live Recognition section was added; it uses on-device intelligence to describe objects captured by the camera and can answer predefined questions. The Reminders app received a refreshed icon featuring Liquid Glass bullets.
Photos settings now include a "Show Rating Controls" toggle that displays star ratings and badges on thumbnails. Control Center shows cellular signal details even when Wi-Fi is active, indicating LTE or 5G status.
Shortcuts can be set to open either the "Describe a Shortcut" interface or the manual editor when creating a new shortcut. A new wallpaper interaction places a cutout of the wallpaper’s subject over the Home screen or active app when the notification center is pulled down.
AirPods gain an Adaptive slider for adjusting transparency versus noise cancellation. Apple clarified that Home app’s Apple Intelligence features will require a 2 GB iCloud+ plan. Maps now includes a tooltip to remind users that route preferences remain available. Lock-screen Control Center buttons have switched to black icons.
The update also notes that 5G+ service is now available in India on supported carriers.
