Tech Entrepreneur Bryan Johnson Diagnosed with Autoimmune Gastritis

Summary

Bryan Johnson, founder of Blueprint and former Braintree executive, announced he has autoimmune gastritis and is seeking experimental treatments.

Bryan Johnson, a 48-year-old entrepreneur known for his anti-aging projects, disclosed on X that he was diagnosed with autoimmune gastritis (AIG) in May. The condition, which can cause vitamin B12 and iron deficiencies and anemia, was discovered after he experienced persistent gastrointestinal symptoms. Johnson said he does not know how long he has had the disease and is looking for researchers working on potential cures.

In a post, Johnson linked the onset of his autoimmune issues to a diet high in sugary cereals, soda and fast food during his youth, followed by stress associated with raising three children and building a business. He described gaining weight, experiencing chronic depression, and later developing autoimmune activity affecting his thyroid and stomach lining.

Johnson, who has been featured in a 2024 Netflix documentary and founded the payments company Braintree, runs Blueprint, a firm that markets supplements and other health-related products. He said he continues to take numerous supplements and is pursuing “experimental approaches” to treat AIG. > "In the age of AI, multiomics, and custom-built DNA, proteins, and cells, no condition should be presumed incurable simply because no one has yet tried to cure it with today’s stack," he wrote.

Blueprint did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
