Walmart and Sam's Club announce summer price cuts on groceries and household items

Summary

Walmart and Sam's Club said they are lowering prices on thousands of products nationwide, citing a desire to help families manage costs during the summer season.

Retailers Walmart and Sam's Club announced on Monday that they will reduce prices on a broad range of items, including groceries, household essentials, outdoor goods, toys and apparel, as part of a summer-focused promotion. The discounts apply nationwide and are intended to help shoppers with everyday purchases and seasonal needs such as barbecues and vacations.

At Walmart, fresh sweet corn on the cob will be sold for $0.25 each, down from $0.68, and fresh red cherries will cost $5.63 per pound, a reduction from $11.18. A pound of 73% lean ground beef will be priced at $5.94, compared with $6.74 previously. Twenty-four-packs of Coca-Cola and Pepsi products will each be priced at $9.97, down from $14.97 and $13.97 respectively.

Sam’s Club said it will cut prices on more than 250 items, including Member’s Mark bone-in chicken wings at $2.00 per pound, reduced from $2.88, and Member’s Mark beef hot dogs at $10.86, down from $12.96.

"Customers count on Walmart to deliver the value they need every day, and summer is no exception," said Julie Barber, executive vice president and chief merchant for Walmart U.S.

President Donald Trump posted on social media that the price reductions were made at the request of his administration and praised Walmart as a patriotic company. He linked the discounts to broader claims about his administration’s economic policies.
