Biohacker Bryan Johnson Diagnosed with Autoimmune Gastritis
Silicon Valley entrepreneur Bryan Johnson announced he has autoimmune gastritis, a chronic condition that damages the stomach lining and cannot be cured, and said he will continue experimental testing to manage it.
Bryan Johnson, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur known for extensive anti-aging experiments, disclosed on social media that he was diagnosed with autoimmune gastritis (AIG) in May. The disease causes the immune system to attack healthy stomach cells, leading to anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency and a heightened long-term risk of stomach cancer. Johnson wrote that his stomach is "eating itself" and acknowledged that standard medical care can only manage, not cure, the condition.
He said he is conducting blood tests to identify the specific immune cells attacking his stomach lining, adding that once identified he will pursue a therapy to suppress them. Johnson, who sold a payments-processing firm for $800 million in 2013, has spent roughly $2 million a year on a team of medical experts to monitor his health metrics as part of his broader effort to delay aging.
Johnson has previously publicized a regimen that includes early-morning workouts, numerous supplements, blue-light-filtering goggles and, in 2023, a blood-transfusion experiment using his teenage son’s blood, which he later described as unsuccessful. He also reported a failed facial fat-injection procedure in late 2024 that caused a severe allergic reaction.
"AIG causes irreversible damage: nutritional deficiency, anemia, and over a long horizon, elevated cancer risk," Johnson wrote.
"When AIG is discovered today, standard medical care concedes defeat, stating that nothing can be done except managing the condition, no matter how awful or lethal the effects," he added.
Johnson said he remains committed to researching therapeutic options despite the incurable nature of the disease.
