Tech Investor Bryan Johnson Diagnosed with Autoimmune Gastritis

Summary

Bryan Johnson, a technology investor known for extensive health experimentation, disclosed that doctors have diagnosed him with early-stage autoimmune gastritis, an incurable condition affecting the stomach lining.

Bryan Johnson, a technology investor who spends millions annually on health monitoring and experimental treatments, announced that doctors have diagnosed him with autoimmune gastritis, an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks stomach cells. The diagnosis was confirmed after a series of tests, including an endoscopy and biopsies, following the detection of chronic iron deficiency despite normal blood counts. Johnson, 48, said the condition had likely begun developing over two decades ago and that his recent health regimen helped prevent a more severe outcome.

"I’m going to try and solve it," Johnson wrote on X, adding that he would share his progress. He also noted that earlier in life he had struggled with high sugar intake, stress-related weight gain, and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at age 21. While his colonoscopy was clear, the endoscopic findings indicated early-stage atrophy limited to the stomach lining. Johnson acknowledged that standard medical care for autoimmune gastritis focuses on managing symptoms rather than curing the disease. "This is a diagnosis of a condition that started in my body over 20 years ago. Had I not taken care of my body during the past few years, it would be a lot worse," he responded to criticism of his longevity-focused lifestyle. Johnson plans to continue experimenting with biohacking approaches in an effort to mitigate the disease’s effects.
