Ferrari's 2027 12Cilindri Manuale uses dual-clutch gearbox with electronic shift control

Ferrari’s 2027 12Cilindri Manuale will be equipped with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission sourced from the SF90 Stradale, reprogrammed to respond to driver inputs from a shift lever and clutch pedal through electronic "by-wire" controls. The system removes the mechanical linkage between the shifter, clutch and gearbox, a design choice that has sparked debate among purist enthusiasts. > Ferrari says the new setup can still simulate classic manual characteristics, including engine stall and clutch-dump burnouts, while also offering a fully automatic mode comparable to that found in the Koenigsegg CC850. The car produces 819 horsepower, 500 pound-feet of torque and revs to 9,500 rpm, figures that exceed the capacity of any existing off-the-shelf manual transmission. Ferrari argues that developing a bespoke mechanical manual for such performance would be impractical, making the electronic-assisted solution the only viable option. The company notes that earlier Ferrari models, such as the F355 and 360, employed automated manual gearboxes that were essentially automatics, positioning the 12Cilindri’s system as a reversal of that approach.
