Apple expands free 4K upgrades to select TV shows
Apple has begun offering complimentary 4K upgrades for a limited selection of TV series purchased through its iTunes Store and Apple TV app, extending a practice previously limited to movies.
Apple is now providing free 4K upgrades for certain TV series bought through its digital storefront, extending a service that has been available for movies since 2017. The rollout, which started this week, includes titles such as "Mad Men," "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," "RuPaul’s Drag Race UK," "The Twilight Zone" reboot, and several others. Users who have previously purchased these shows via the iTunes Store or Apple TV app can stream them in 4K without additional cost. The company has not disclosed a timeline for adding more series, but the list is expected to grow.
"Free 4K upgrades on @AppleTV have been a long-time and long-held promise for customers purchasing movies on Apple’s digital storefront," a social-media post noted.
The upgrade is being rolled out quietly, and Apple has not issued an official press release. Customers are encouraged to check their Apple TV library to see if any of their purchased shows have been upgraded.
