Bentley names its upcoming electric model Torcal, set for September debut

Summary

Bentley has confirmed its first electric vehicle will be called the Torcal and will be revealed on September 23, continuing the brand's tradition of naming models after natural landmarks.

Bentley announced that its first fully electric model will be called the Torcal, with a public unveiling scheduled for September 23. The name follows the marque's recent practice of drawing on natural landmarks, referencing the limestone formations of El Torcal de Antequera in Spain. The designation also alludes to the Latin root "torquere," hinting at the high torque output typical of electric drivetrains.

The vehicle is expected to be produced at Bentley's Crewe plant in England and will be built on the Volkswagen Group's PPE platform, which underpins other electric models such as the Porsche Cayenne. Unlike Rolls-Royce's two-door electric coupe, the Torcal is anticipated to resemble Bentley's earlier EXP 15 concept, suggesting a more conventional sedan or SUV silhouette.

"For 107 years, Bentleys have been the most incredibly complete cars—effortless performance, outstanding comfort, exquisite British handcraftsmanship using the best natural materials, and a soundtrack with soul," said Bentley chairman and CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser.

"Our new Torcal sets extraordinary benchmarks in every area that matters and may just be the most considered car in our history," Walliser added.

The model has been spotted during testing in the Arctic Circle and at the Nürburgring, providing early glimpses of its interior and confirming development progress.
