Anthropic signs 20-year lease for TeraWulf Kentucky AI data center
Anthropic will lease a TeraWulf data center in Kentucky for 20 years, a deal projected to generate $19 billion in revenue, while TeraWulf's shares rose sharply in pre-market trading.
Anthropic announced on Monday that it has entered a 20-year lease agreement to use a TeraWulf data center located near Hawesville, Kentucky, about an hour southwest of Louisville. The facility is planned to provide roughly 400 megawatts of power, with the first power delivery expected in the second half of 2027. The lease is projected to generate about $19 billion in revenue over its initial term.
"The Anthropic lease validates our strategy and establishes a long-duration revenue stream with one of the world's leading AI companies," CEO Paul Prager said.
Following the announcement, TeraWulf shares rose more than 16 % in pre-market trading. The company also disclosed the sale of its 50 % stake in a 168-megawatt data center in Abernathy, Texas, to an investor group led by Fluidstack. TeraWulf, originally a cryptocurrency mining firm, has shifted its focus to AI data center infrastructure, contributing to an 80 % increase in its stock price so far this year.
