Regulatory filings reveal battery capacities for upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models
Chinese certification documents show the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will have larger batteries than their predecessors, with U.S. versions slightly bigger due to the absence of a SIM tray.
Regulatory filings in China’s C3 database indicate that Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be equipped with higher-capacity batteries than the prior generation. The documents list a 4,056 mAh battery for the iPhone 18 Pro sold in China and a 4,288 mAh unit for the U.S. market, compared with 3,988 mAh and 4,252 mAh respectively for the iPhone 17 Pro. The Pro Max variant is shown with 5,391 mAh in China and 5,567 mAh in the United States, up from 4,823 mAh and 5,088 mAh for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The filings do not name the devices directly, but the specifications align with expectations for the iPhone 18 Pro line. Differences between Chinese and U.S. capacities are attributed to Apple’s continued use of a physical SIM tray outside the United States, whereas U.S. models rely on eSIM only, freeing space for a slightly larger battery.
Battery model numbers S2232 and S2233 correspond to the iPhone 18 Pro, while 2235L/2235 and 2236L/2236 apply to the Pro Max. All four batteries are listed with a rated energy of up to 21.751 Wh, a charge limit voltage of 4.520 V, and a validity period extending to May or June 2031.
Earlier supply-chain reports had suggested the Chinese iPhone 18 Pro Max would feature a battery near 5,000 mAh, and the new figures confirm a substantial increase. The devices are also rumored to include a smaller Dynamic Island, a variable-aperture main camera, and the C2 modem in non-U.S. markets, with a launch expected in September alongside Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
