Rob Reiner appears posthumously in Larry David's HBO comedy "Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America," a cameo that has generated criticism online. Director Jeff Schaffer described the appearance as Reiner's "last laugh" against President Donald Trump, noting the episode will air over the Fourth of July weekend.

Social media users responded with negative remarks, questioning the appropriateness of the political satire given Reiner's recent death. Some commenters argued that the notion of a "last laugh" was insensitive in light of the murder of Reiner and his wife by their son, Nick Reiner.

In the sketch, Reiner, portraying George Washington, declares he will not seek a third term and suggests a constitutional amendment to limit presidential power. Larry David, in period costume, asks about a hypothetical "narcissistic" leader, and Reiner responds with a warning about the importance of a peaceful transfer of power. The segment also features a cameo by Jimmy Kimmel, who jokes about the president's reaction to criticism.

The scene was reportedly filmed on November 13, less than a month before Nick Reiner allegedly killed his parents. Police discovered the bodies on December 14 in Brentwood, and Nick Reiner was taken into custody and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty at a February arraignment and faces a potential life sentence or death penalty.

Nick Reiner has recently sought access to a $1.5 million trust fund, claiming the trustees blocked the payout. Court documents indicate the dispute forced him to rely on a court-appointed public defender despite retaining a private attorney. A family spokesperson declined further comment on the legal proceedings.

White House representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the cameo.
