Police serving an indecent exposure warrant in Vinton County uncovered 16 children, ages 18 months to 18 years, confined in a cramped, waste-filled room, leading to multiple child endangerment charges against four family members.

Police executing a warrant for indecent exposure at a Vinton County home in Ohio discovered 16 children living in a 12-by-12-foot room littered with human waste. The children, ranging from 18 months to 18 years old, were described as having limited ability to communicate, with the oldest being developmentally disabled and unable to write her name. > "One of the investigative challenges is that [the children] are limited. They can communicate, but it’s extremely limited, and some not at all," county Sheriff Ryan Cain said. > Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson said the conditions "looked third world" and that he could not get the smell off himself. Seven of the children were hospitalized, two at trauma centers. Four adults—Gary Siders II, his wife Elizabeth Siders, and his parents Gary Sr. and Christina—were arrested and face up to 16 counts of child endangerment each, with potential sentences of up to 192 years in prison. The case is being investigated as an intra-family matter, and officials noted that the children had never been enrolled in school.
