Delta flight reports firework strike during landing at Chicago Midway

A Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Chicago reported that a firework made contact with the aircraft as it approached Midway International Airport on July 4. The plane, operating as Flight 1076, departed Hartsfield-Jackson at 7:36 p.m. ET and touched down at 8:38 p.m. CT, according to flight-tracking data.

Air traffic control recordings captured the crew informing the tower that they had heard a bang and believed a firework had hit the plane, adding that they would assess any damage after reaching the gate.

The aircraft landed without incident and no emergency procedures were required. Delta officials said the plane is being examined for possible damage before it returns to service.
