Paul Pelosi cited in Napa County hit-and-run, faces possible misdemeanor charge

सारांश

Police say the 86-year-old husband of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi struck a parked car in Yountville, fled the scene and may be charged with a misdemeanor.

Los Angeles (AP) – Paul Pelosi, 86, was involved in a hit-and-run incident on Friday in Yountville, California, after his brown convertible collided with a legally parked vehicle, authorities said. A witness called 911 and deputies later located Pelosi’s car about a quarter-mile away with front-end damage. He told officers he knew he had hit something but could not recall the exact circumstances.

The Napa County Sheriff’s Office reported that no injuries occurred and that Pelosi tested negative for alcohol. Officials referred him to the Department of Motor Vehicles for a standard review of his driving fitness, a routine step for older drivers. Because no one was injured, the sheriff’s office recommended a misdemeanor charge for fleeing the scene.

"He knew he hit something but was not sure when or what caused the damage," the sheriff’s statement said.

Pelosi was not arrested at the scene. He previously pleaded guilty in 2022 to misdemeanor DUI charges in Napa County, receiving a short jail term, probation, a mandatory drinking-driver class, an ignition interlock requirement and restitution payments.

A staff member for former Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
