Analysts Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line report that teams interested in LeBron James are prepared to wait for his decision, delaying other roster moves. They note a growing perception that returning to Cleveland, where James was drafted in 2003, could be the most appealing option for the veteran star.
Cleveland has remained largely silent since free agency opened, making only a veteran-minimum signing of forward Thomas Bryant. Other recent moves include Dean Wade’s agreement with Philadelphia and Keon Ellis’s deal with Brooklyn.
Stein and Fischer suggest a possible strategy by the Cavaliers to retain roster flexibility for a potential trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, which could allow Bronny James to join his father if LeBron signs with Cleveland.
The Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves also consider themselves viable candidates, alongside the Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat, which may offer a mix of players and coaching staff that could attract James.
