Independence Day fireworks over National Mall delayed by storm
Severe weather pushed back the scheduled Independence Day program on the National Mall, with President Trump's remarks and the fireworks now set for later Saturday night, while a live stream will be available online.
Severe thunderstorms forced organizers of the Freedom 250 "Salute to America" celebration to postpone the scheduled Independence Day events on the National Mall. The main program, originally slated to begin at 7 p.m., was delayed, and President Donald Trump’s address, which was to be delivered at 9:45 p.m., has been moved to 11 p.m. The historic fireworks display will follow the speech later in the evening.
Freedom 250 said the Washington Monument grounds will reopen to the public at 9:45 p.m., and the fireworks will occur after the president’s remarks. The organization posted that "rain or shine, the American people deserve a celebration worthy of our nation's historic 250th birthday," emphasizing that the weather would not diminish the festivities.
"We will wait it out," President Trump wrote on his social media platform.
For viewers unable to attend in person, 7News will stream the fireworks live on its website and YouTube channel, allowing the celebration to be watched from elsewhere.
