Police say the 86-year-old husband of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi struck a parked vehicle in Yountville, California, and left the scene, prompting a referral to the DMV and a recommended misdemeanor charge.

Police in Napa County reported that Paul Pelosi, 86, was involved in a collision on Friday in Yountville, where his brown convertible hit a legally parked car. After briefly stopping, he drove away, and a witness called 911. Deputies later located Pelosi about a quarter-mile away with significant front-end damage to his vehicle. He told officers he knew he had struck something but could not recall the exact circumstances.

The sheriff’s office said no injuries were reported and that a toxicology test showed no alcohol in Pelosi’s system. Officials have referred him to the California Department of Motor Vehicles for a standard review of driving eligibility for elderly drivers. While he was not arrested, the department is recommending a misdemeanor charge for fleeing the scene of an accident.

Pelosi’s prior 2022 misdemeanor DUI conviction in the same county resulted in a short jail term, probation, a mandatory drinking-driver class, an ignition interlock device, and restitution and fines totaling roughly $7,000. A staff member for Rep. Pelosi did not respond to a request for comment.
