Spike Chunsoft to Release STEINS;GATE Octet of Shifting Space on PS5, Switch, Switch 2 and PC in the West

Spike Chunsoft said the 8-bit-styled visual novel STEINS;GATE Octet of Shifting Space will be released for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Switch and PC via Steam in western territories. The game originally debuted on PC in Japan on Oct. 28, 2011, and this marks its first appearance on consoles and on Steam worldwide.

In Japan, the console versions will be bundled as a purchase bonus with the physical edition of STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT. The publisher will provide further details on how western players can obtain the title at a later date.

According to Spike Chunsoft, the game recreates the text-parser mechanics of 1980s adventure titles, allowing players to type English commands to progress the story. It also features graphics that emulate the line-drawing process of early PC games, with optional animation skipping. Visual modes range from 8-color RGB to green-monochrome displays, and the audio emulates vintage FM synthesis and PSG sound chips, with music composed by Takeshi Abo.

In related news, Spike Chunsoft announced a Digital Deluxe Edition of STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT, which will include a digital copy of the game, visual book, soundtrack and footage from the “STEINS;GATE 15th LIVE: ONE WORLD” event with English subtitles. RE:BOOT is slated for a Japanese launch on Aug. 20 for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PS4, Switch and PC, with western releases on Xbox Series and PC the same day and on PS5, Switch 2, PS4 and Switch on Oct. 29.
