Trump warns of communism at Mount Rushmore as heatwave forces event cancellations
President Donald Trump denounced communism during a speech at Mount Rushmore, while a severe heatwave led to the cancellation of Washington's Independence Day parade and closures of local events.
President Donald Trump delivered a speech at Mount Rushmore on Friday, warning that communism poses a threat to American liberty and urging citizens to safeguard their freedoms. He said, "Communism is a mortal threat to American liberty" and added that the United States "will not let anyone take that away."
The remarks came amid a nationwide heatwave that prompted the closure of the Great American State Fair in Washington for several hours and forced the cancellation of the city’s Independence Day parade, with forecast temperatures expected to reach 46°C. Wildfires in the western United States, particularly in Colorado and Utah, have also displaced thousands of residents and destroyed more than 160 structures, prompting National Guard deployment for security assistance.
While the capital faced extreme heat, the Pacific Northwest experienced milder conditions, with temperatures in the 60s Fahrenheit and light showers reported on Friday.
