Woman shoots man dead in Walmart parking lot after parking dispute, claims self-defense

Summary

A 62-year-old man was killed after a verbal argument over a Walmart parking space in North Lauderdale, Florida, and the female shooter has said she acted in self-defense.

A shooting in a North Lauderdale Walmart parking lot left 62-year-old Bart Diguglielmo dead after a dispute over a parking space escalated on Tuesday. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said an adult woman and the victim engaged in a verbal altercation before she fired a handgun, claiming she acted in self-defense.

Dashcam and cellphone footage obtained by ABC News show the woman exiting a vehicle, pointing a gun at Diguglielmo while holding a phone, and urging him to "walk away" before gunfire is heard. Diguglielmo initially walked away, then returned toward the woman before being shot. He was later found on the ground and, after being taken to a hospital, was pronounced dead.

The woman remained at the scene, cooperated with detectives and was reportedly apprehended by law-enforcement officers. Her identity has not been released, and it is unclear whether she is in custody. The case will be forwarded to the 17th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office for a decision on possible charges. A Walmart spokesperson declined to comment, referring the matter to local authorities.
