Legal Affairs Reporter Paula Reid Set to Join MS NOW After Leaving CNN

Summary

Paula Reid, a legal-affairs journalist, is expected to move to MS NOW following her decision not to renew her contract with CNN amid uncertainty surrounding the network’s ownership change.

Legal-affairs journalist Paula Reid is anticipated to begin a new role at MS NOW, according to a source familiar with the matter, after declining to renew her contract with CNN. The decision comes as CNN’s parent company Warner Bros. Discovery is being acquired by Paramount Skydance, creating uncertainty about the network’s future direction.

Sources said Reid turned down a contract extension in part because the upcoming era at CNN appears chaotic, with Paramount indicating that Bari Weiss, currently editor in chief of CBS News, could become the network’s next leader. MS NOW, under president Rebecca Kutler, has been emphasizing hard news and enterprise journalism.

"As a general matter of practice, we don’t comment on personnel matters," a spokesperson for MS NOW said. "As everyone in Washington knows, Paula Reid is an exceptional reporter, and any news organization would be fortunate to showcase her journalism."

Reid’s representatives declined to comment, and CNN also declined to comment on her departure. Reid joined CNN in 2021 after a stint at CBS News and has become known for coverage of Supreme Court issues and investigations involving high-profile officials, including both President Biden and former President Trump. She was part of the team that reported Trump’s audio recording discussing a classified document and has occasionally served as a substitute anchor on weekends.
