Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z Flip 7 With Larger Displays and Battery, but Camera Upgrades Lag
Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 7 introduces a larger front display and battery in a slimmer design, though its cameras and front screen software see minimal improvements.
Samsung has launched the Galaxy Z Flip 7, featuring a larger 4.1-inch front display and a 6.9-inch main screen, both housed in the company's thinnest foldable design to date. The device incorporates a 4,300mAh battery, a 300mAh increase over its predecessor, while maintaining a slimmer profile at 6.4mm when open. Samsung attributes the expanded front display and reduced bezel to a new waterproof coating beneath the AMOLED panel.
The Z Flip 7 continues to use the same 50-megapixel primary camera and 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens as previous models, with no dedicated telephoto camera. The device can record video in 10-bit HDR, offering improved color accuracy. Despite these features, the camera hardware remains largely unchanged from last year, limiting photographic versatility compared to the Fold series.
Software enhancements for the Flex Window are modest, with the introduction of features like the Now Bar and Now Brief, which display ongoing information such as fitness metrics and ride-share updates. However, most third-party apps still require a separate launcher to function on the front display, and the list of supported apps remains limited.
Performance is powered by Samsung's Exynos 2500 processor, delivering improved battery life—up to 18.5 hours of continuous video playback in tests. Charging speeds remain at 25W, which is unchanged from the previous model and lower than some competing devices. While the Z Flip 7 offers notable hardware improvements, the lack of significant camera and software upgrades may leave some users wanting more.
