Actor Danny Glover Discloses Alzheimer's Diagnosis on Today Show

Summary

Danny Glover, 79, confirmed he has Alzheimer's disease during a Today interview, emphasizing his intent to remain open about his condition.

Actor Danny Glover revealed that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease during a pre-recorded interview on the "Today" program with Lester Holt. The 79-year-old said he can "live with it in a sense" but expects the disease to change his life as it progresses. He thanked his family for their support, noting they have "absolutely … got [his] back."

"I’m sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing," Glover said.

Glover’s daughter Mandisa also spoke with Holt, stressing the importance of her father controlling his own narrative. She said, "It’s really important for him to have control of his own narrative, of his own life story," and added that she does not want to give a false impression of his health.

"I don’t want to be a dishonest person and say, ‘Oh, yeah, everything is all right. It’s all great,’" she said.

During the segment, Glover reflected on his career, naming the film "Places in the Heart" as his favorite project, and expressed a desire to teach young people about their responsibilities, stating that "justice is our collective responsibility." He also referenced past health challenges, including epilepsy, which he has not experienced since age 35.

The actor, who received an honorary Oscar in 2022, said he intends to continue speaking publicly about his condition and its impact.
