Pistons Say They Will Match Any Offer Sheet for Restricted Free Agent Jalen Duren
Detroit plans to match any offer sheet for center Jalen Duren and is not pursuing sign-and-trade deals, according to reports.
Detroit indicated it will match any offer sheet the 22-year-old All-NBA center receives in restricted free agency and has ruled out sign-and-trade options, ESPN and Andscape reported. The Pistons are said to have presented what they consider the most lucrative contract possible for Duren, who posted 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game during the regular season and earned third-team All-NBA honors.
"We are prepared to match any offer sheet and are not interested in a sign-and-trade," the report quoted a Pistons source as saying.
Duren’s production dipped in the playoffs to 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds over two seven-game series, prompting speculation about his future. Rival teams could offer up to $177.4 million over four years, while Detroit could theoretically extend offers of up to $287.1 million over five years or $221.8 million over four years under the Rose Rule.
Earlier reports suggested Duren was considering sign-and-trade discussions with the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers, but later information indicated the Pistons remain confident they can retain the former 13th-overall pick from the 2022 draft.
