Raptors to acquire Kawhi Leonard from Clippers in multi-asset trade

Summary

Toronto is set to receive Kawhi Leonard from Los Angeles in exchange for Brandon Ingram, rookie Gradey Dick and several future draft picks, with Leonard expected to sign an extension.

The Toronto Raptors are poised to receive two-time NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard from the Los Angeles Clippers in a deal that also sends forward Brandon Ingram, 2023 first-round pick Gradey Dick and multiple future draft assets to Los Angeles. The trade package includes first-round selections in 2031 and 2033, second-round picks in 2030 and 2033, and a first-round pick swap in 2027.

Leonard, who spent the 2018-19 season with Toronto and helped the team win the championship, has one year left on the contract he signed with the Clippers in 2019. Sources say he intends to negotiate a contract extension with the Raptors. The 35-year-old forward is a seven-time All-Star, two-time Defensive Player of the Year and a member of the NBA’s 75th-anniversary team. He posted averages of 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists over 65 games for Los Angeles last season.

Ingram, a 28-year-old All-Star forward, will return to Los Angeles, where he began his career with the Lakers. He recorded 21.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in 77 appearances for Toronto this season. Gradey Dick, selected 13th overall in the 2023 draft, has contributed 9.2 points and 2.5 rebounds across his first three NBA seasons.
