Kate Gosselin Declines Son Collin's Request for Polygraph Test Ahead of Memoir Release

Kate Gosselin said she will not undergo a polygraph test after her 22-year-old son Collin publicly asked her to do so in an interview with a UK tabloid. The request, made in October 2025, was part of Collin's promotion for a forthcoming memoir titled In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, scheduled for release in October.

Gosselin responded to comments on a TikTok video about her rescue dog, noting that, as a public figure, she faces different legal standards. She said, "> I can’t because I’m a public figure. Rules are different unfortunately. Or I definitely would!" and added, "> Malice is one of the hardest things to prove. I tried. The rules are different for people in the public eye."

She also referenced advice from a Los Angeles attorney, stating that courts typically do not honor defamation claims from public figures. When asked directly whether she would take the test, she replied with a brief "Ha!" in the comment thread.

Collin announced last week that his memoir will be published in October and described the book as a way to find his voice and present a perspective he says differs from public perception. In the earlier interview, he alleged that his mother had zip-tied his wrists and ankles and confined him in a basement, and he invited her to a polygraph to address those claims.

Collin has lived with his father Jon Gosselin since 2018 and remains estranged from his sister Hannah and other siblings. The dispute adds to ongoing public tensions between the former reality-TV family members.
