Samsung Confirms Galaxy Z Fold 8 Lineup, Privacy Screen Feature Excluded

Résumé

Regulatory filings confirm Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, while a reliable tipster says the devices will not include the hardware privacy screen found on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Samsung has verified the existence of its next-generation foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8, through recent regulatory filings released this week. The documents also detail wireless charging specifications and confirm the product names ahead of the company's Unpacked event scheduled for next month.

According to a well-known Samsung leaker, identified as Ice Universe, the new foldable models will not feature the hardware-based privacy display that is currently exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. In a post on X, the tipster responded to a user query, stating, "The Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 do not have privacy screens."

The privacy screen on the S26 Ultra uses an integrated filter layer that can be adjusted to limit side-viewing of the display, a capability that has been highlighted as a differentiating feature for that flagship. Samsung has not indicated whether technical constraints or pricing considerations led to its omission from the foldable lineup.

Industry observers note that the Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to carry a 200-megapixel main camera, an upgraded screen resolution and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, positioning it at the high end of Samsung's portfolio. The entry-level Z Fold 8 Wide is anticipated to have more modest specifications.

Pricing details have not been released, but analysts expect the Fold 8 series to be priced above the previous generation, which launched at $1,999 in the United States. The absence of the privacy screen is not expected to lower the cost of the Ultra model.

Further information is likely to emerge at Samsung's upcoming product launch event.
