Harry Kane becomes England's top World Cup scorer with goal against Panama

Summary

Harry Kane scored his 12th World Cup goal, surpassing Gary Lineker to become England's all-time leading scorer in the tournament.

Harry Kane broke Gary Lineker's record to become England's all-time leading World Cup scorer during the team's 2-0 victory over Panama on Saturday. The captain added a second goal, heading in a cross from Jude Bellingham in the second half, which took his World Cup tally to 12 goals, overtaking Lineker's previous total of 10.

"It is a proud one for sure," Kane said, adding that he wanted to enjoy the moment with his teammates and hoped the milestone would not be his last in the tournament.

Lineker, who scored ten World Cup goals across the 1986 and 1990 tournaments, recently praised Kane as the greatest English striker. Kane's two goals in England's opening 4-2 win over Croatia made him the second English player, after David Beckham, to score in three different World Cups (2018, 2022, 2026). He previously won the Golden Boot in 2018 with six goals and added two more in Qatar, bringing his total to three goals so far in the 2026 competition.
