White House Cancels Vanilla Ice Performance at Freedom 250 Event Due to Weather

Summary

The Freedom 250 celebration in Washington, D.C., halted Vanilla Ice's scheduled set on Friday, citing inclement weather, after the artist had been one of the few performers remaining.

The Freedom 250 Great American State Fair and FIFA World Cup 2026™ Fan Zone in Washington, D.C., announced on Friday that it would close for the remainder of the day because of inclement weather, cancelling the scheduled performance by Grammy-nominated artist Vanilla Ice.

"Due to inclement weather in the area, the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair and FIFA World Cup 2026™ Fan Zone will be closed for the rest of the day — Friday, June 26, 2026," an event staffer wrote on X. "The safety of our guests, staff, and partners remains our top priority. We are actively monitoring conditions and will provide updates as they become available. The Great American State Fair will reopen tomorrow at 10 AM."

Vanilla Ice had posted a video from a sound check at the National Mall earlier in the day, indicating he was prepared to perform. The artist had previously defended his participation after several other musicians withdrew from the event over its association with the Trump administration.

Freedom 250 is a public-private partnership organized by the current administration to mark the United States' 250th anniversary, with events scheduled through July 10.
