Summary

President Donald Trump announced the nomination of Lance Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper and Marine Corps veteran, to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he has nominated Lance Schroyer to serve as the next director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Schroyer, who has more than 29 years of law-enforcement experience in Oklahoma, previously served as a state trooper and was a major in the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety’s Emergency Services Unit. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps and currently acts as a senior advisor to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin.

The White House statement highlighted Schroyer’s background in interagency collaboration, tactical planning and policy implementation. Mullin said the nomination should be confirmed quickly, noting that Schroyer has overseen large-scale operations and worked with state and federal partners under the 287(g) program.

ICE has operated without a Senate-confirmed director since early 2017, when a series of acting heads filled the role.

"Lance is coming straight from the operational field where he ran large scale operations and worked alongside state and federal partners to remove illegal aliens from Oklahoma under the 287g program," Mullin said in a social media post. "President Trump made a great pick, and I'm confident Lance's strong leadership and firsthand experience will empower the men and women of ICE to deport criminal illegal aliens, secure the homeland, and protect the American people."
