Apple's upcoming OLED MacBook Ultra to use M5 Pro and M5 Max processors
Apple plans to launch a high-end MacBook with an OLED touchscreen that will be powered by existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with availability expected between late 2024 and early 2025.
Apple is set to introduce a premium MacBook model equipped with an OLED touchscreen and a new design that includes an iPhone-style Dynamic Island. The device, codenamed "K114" for the 14-inch version and "K116" for the 16-inch version, will be powered by the current M5 Pro and M5 Max Apple silicon chips rather than the anticipated next-generation M6 series.
According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the MacBook Ultra is slated for release "between late this year and early next year" and is expected to carry a price tag above the existing M5 Pro MacBook Pro, which starts at $1,999 following recent price adjustments.
Gurman also noted that Apple intends to bypass the "M6 Pro" and "M6 Max" chips, moving directly to more advanced "M7 Pro" and "M7 Max" processors aimed at intensive AI workloads, featuring enhanced neural accelerators, graphics, and memory bandwidth. An entry-level MacBook Pro using the M6 chip is still anticipated later this year.
