Microsoft extends free Windows 10 extended security updates to October 2027

Microsoft has announced that the Windows 10 extended security updates (ESU) program will continue for an extra year, now running through October 12, 2027. The change applies to all users who are already enrolled and to new participants who sign in with a Microsoft account, with a paid option available through reward points or a $30 fee.

"Windows 10 support has ended. You can enroll in ESU any time until the programme ends on 12 October, 2027. If you’re already enrolled, your coverage will automatically continue through that date—no action needed," the Microsoft support page states.

The extension means that devices running Windows 10 will keep receiving security patches without requiring users to upgrade to a newer operating system. Microsoft noted that the decision helps users who still rely on Windows 10, which remains installed on hundreds of millions of PCs worldwide.
