Celtics in Active Discussions Over Potential Jaylen Brown Trade

Boston Celtics officials are in active talks to trade forward Jaylen Brown, according to ESPN reporter Shams Charania, who said multiple teams have shown interest. Charania noted that while several clubs feel a "sense of purpose" from Boston in the discussions, Brown’s super-max contract—about $183 million over the next three seasons—could be a significant obstacle. He added that the urgency of either side may shift in the coming weeks.
The trade interest follows a previous proposal that linked Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of Boston’s pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Sources suggest Brown might prefer a leading role on another team rather than sharing the spotlight with teammate Jayson Tatum.
Boston’s president of basketball operations Brad Stevens told reporters that he had held several meetings with Brown before the Bucks offer became public, describing the conversations as "really good, candid." He did not rule out ongoing trade discussions.
Two insiders speaking to Sports Illustrated confirmed that trade talks occurred on Tuesday, with some initiated by rival franchises and others by the Celtics. One executive said the team is "hunting a big man" and is willing to move Brown to acquire one.
