Apple's iPhone 18 Pro expected to debut A20 Pro chip, enhanced cameras and C2 modem
Industry rumors indicate the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro will incorporate a 2nm A20 Pro processor, variable-aperture camera hardware and Apple’s next-generation C2 5G modem.
Apple is reportedly preparing to launch the iPhone 18 Pro later this year with several hardware upgrades. The device is expected to be powered by a new A20 Pro chip built on a 2nm fabrication process and using wafer-on-wafer chip-on-mid-range (WMCM) packaging, which could deliver notable performance and efficiency improvements for iOS 27’s AI features.
"Some of the biggest camera hardware upgrades in the lineup’s history," said analyst Mark Gurman, referring to the anticipated changes to the main and telephoto lenses. The main camera is rumored to gain a variable aperture, while the telephoto lens may receive a larger aperture to enhance low-light performance. The larger camera module could add roughly 2 mm to the phone’s thickness.
Apple is also expected to introduce its in-house C2 modem in the iPhone 18 Pro, continuing the shift away from Qualcomm components. The C2 modem is projected to match or exceed current high-end 5G capabilities and may support satellite connectivity, offering potential battery and privacy benefits.
These rumored specifications suggest the iPhone 18 Pro could represent a significant hardware refresh compared with previous models.
