Savannah Guthrie Appeals for Public Assistance After Second Ransom Note Indicates Mother’s Death

Summary

NBC “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie urged anyone with information to come forward after a second ransom note suggested her mother, Nancy Guthrie, died following her abduction.

Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC’s “Today,” asked the public for help on Tuesday after a second ransom note related to her mother’s kidnapping indicated that Nancy Guthrie had died sometime after being taken. The note, received in February, said the victim was “with nature” and did not contain a monetary demand, leading authorities to believe the abductors may have buried her.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department, in coordination with the FBI, continues to investigate the case. Guthrie, seated with her fellow anchors, said she could not comment on the new information but felt compelled to address viewers. > “I can’t pretend I’m not here, and so since I am, I wanted to just take the opportunity to ask people, really to beg people, to come forward. Somebody knows something.”

She emphasized the ongoing impact on her family, noting that her sister Annie, brother Camron, and extended relatives remain in “agony” and lack peace. Guthrie reminded viewers of the existing rewards—a $1 million offer from the family and a $100 000 reward from the FBI—and encouraged anonymous tips.

The investigation has gathered thousands of leads, and authorities hope that someone may recognize the masked suspect captured on Nest camera footage from the night of February 1. The video shows a man in a balaclava, gloves, and a black 25-liter Ozark Trail backpack approaching the Guthrie home at 1:47 a.m., attempting to obscure the camera before moving around the yard. He is described as approximately 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build and was seen with a holstered gun.

Nancy Guthrie, who had a pacemaker, was reportedly not receiving her heart medication during the abduction, raising concerns about her health prior to her death. Anchor Craig Melvin reiterated the request for information, providing the FBI tip line (800) CALL-FBI.
