Meta launches $299 Meta Glasses without Ray-Ban or Oakley branding

Summary

Meta introduced a new line of smart glasses priced from $299, produced with EssilorLuxottica and available in multiple countries with various frame styles and lens options.

Meta announced on Tuesday the release of Meta Glasses, a new series of smart eyewear priced from $299. The devices are manufactured in partnership with EssilorLuxottica and are sold without the Ray-Ban or Oakley brands that appeared on the company’s earlier models.

The glasses are being rolled out in several countries and come in a range of colors and lens combinations. They do not include a visual display but are equipped with a camera, personal speakers and a programmable button that by default activates Meta’s AI assistant.

Meta states the glasses provide more than eight hours of battery life, with a charging case that can add up to 40 additional hours of use. The initial lineup includes the rectangular-shaped “Meta Adventurer” in standard and large sizes, the boxier “Meta Fury,” and a slim oval frame developed with model Kylie Jenner, marketed as “Meta Glasses by Kylie.”

According to the company, the AI assistant can answer queries about sports scores, restaurant recommendations, and other topics, as well as interpret visual information to help manage daily tasks. Meta plans to add a pedestrian navigation feature that offers turn-by-turn walking directions, and it is expanding its live translation capability to support 14 new languages, including Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi and Korean.
