Celtics' bid for Giannis Antetokounmpo falls short as Bucks trade him to Heat

The Boston Celtics attempted to acquire two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo by proposing a trade that included star guard Jaylen Brown and two first-round draft selections. According to league sources, the Milwaukee Bucks declined the offer, opting instead for a deal that sends Antetokounmpo and forward Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat in exchange for Tyler Herro, several future draft picks and a pick swap.
The Bucks' front office said the return provided "more flexibility and a big-picture approach with controlled contracts and long-term competitiveness," emphasizing the strategic value of the assets received. The trade package also includes unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, the No. 13 pick in the current draft, a 2033 second-round pick, a pick swap in 2030, and several young players.
Boston’s offer would have added Brown, a five-time All-Star who averaged 28.7 points per game last season, to a roster already featuring Jayson Tatum. Brown addressed trade speculation on a livestream, stating that rumors were "turning me into a monster." With the deal falling through, the Celtics will continue to rely on the Brown-Tatum tandem after a first-round playoff exit.
The transaction positions Miami as a stronger Eastern Conference contender, while Milwaukee retains a collection of draft assets aimed at sustaining competitiveness over the coming years.
